DSi Firmware Update

August 07, 2009 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

Nintendo recently updated the firmware of the DSi in an effort to stop the use of R4 cards.  R4 cards are commonly used to illegally play pirated games.  Nintendo updated the firmware to 1.4 just earlier this week, but days later it appears someone may already have cracked it!  This is good news for fans of pirate games, but bad for Nintendo and game developers.

For the majority of us, this won’t matter and should not affect DSi’s security or game play.  For the majority of users this probably is not really of any interest, but if you’re a bit of a tech head then you might like to watch the video below.

Nearly 7 million DSi sales!

August 07, 2009 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

Nintendo’s DSi has nearly reached sales figures of 7 million units.  This comes as some good news as after the initial boom of the Nintendo Wii and DS, sales have started to decline.  Officially there have been 6.88 million DSis sold, but it won’t be long before they hit this sales target.  If you are thinking about getting a DSi for Christmas, it may be worth trying to buy one now.  Sales have definitely started to pick up and places are selling stock quite quickly.  It will only become more manic when it is  month away from Christmas.

The DSi has already sold 3 million units in Japan and Nintendo sold 435,000 DSis during the week they were launched in America.  These sales figures are impressive, considering the DSi has only been on sale in the UK since the start of April.

DSi Deluxe Pack

August 07, 2009 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

Here’s a useful heads up about the DSi Deluxe pack that Amazon is selling for just £19.99.  For the price you cannot beat it, as it contains a tonne of useful extras.

  • DSi Mixed Eva Case

The DSi Deluxe Pack comes with a great, sturdy carry case which will help protect your DSi from drops and falls as well as giving you a nice way to carry it around.  The case would become very useful if taking your DSi on holiday or on trips.

  • Earphones with Mic

When playing with your DSi it is nice to hear the music and sounds, however it can become a little anti-social.  This earphone and microphone set allow you to hear and speak to your DSi without being obtrusive.

  • Power adapter

If you’re going on holiday, the last thing you will want to happen is for your DSi to run out of battery….well, maybe the last thing you want is rain, but not being able to have a quick bit of brain training or a fast race on Mario Kart is high up there!

  • Car Charger

The DSi Deluxe Pack comes with a handy car charger, so that you can charge your DSi up from your car’s cigarette lighter.  This is a great tool for long car journeys and road trips.  The DSi console is a great way for kids to silently pass long motorway journeys in the back of the car - the last thing you want is for the DSi to run out of battery and end up enduring the constant drone of “Are we there yet?”.

  • USB Charge Cable

The final, additional power charger allows you to charge your DSi via a computer’s USB port.  This is a handy, light weight way of being able to charge your DSi up at work - so you can play with it on the way home.

  • Screen Protector Set

I hate getting scratches on my DSi and MP3 players.  The DSi Deluxe Pack comes with a screen protector to help stop you getting small, annoying marks on the screens.

  • 2 Stylus

It is easy to loose or misplace the pens you get with your DSi so getting two extra ones can be handy!

  • 4 Game Cases

The DSi deluxe pack comes with 4 game cases which allow you to protect the cartridges.  The game cases are very handy when taking games on holiday to ensure they do not get damaged.

  • Cleaning Cloth

If you’re anything like me, after a fantic bit of game play you probably end up with loads of greasy finger prints all over your DSi.  You can a nice soft cleaning cloth, so you can make your DSi sparkle!

  • Wrist Strap

The final feature of the DSi Deluxe pack is the Wrist strap.  It is nice to be able to loop this around your hand, just encase you nearly drop it…or want to throw it at the wall when you’re finding it impossible to finish the game’s level you are on.

DSi Console Games

August 07, 2009 By: admin Category: games

The DSi supports all the old DS games but due to its lack of a game boy advance slot it will not accept old game boy advance games.  In this post I will review some of the most popular games.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

This game is very popular at play.com, where it has a 5 star user rating!  It’s not hard to see why either when you find out more about the game.  Professor Layton is an addictive puzzle game, boasting  more than 135 puzzles and the ability to download more via the DSi’s wi fi connection.  The game is based on a very popular Japanese puzzle book made by Akira Tagio which sold over 12 million copies in Japan alone.  This isn’t just a game full of riddles and brain teasers, there is an enjoyable background story told via by cartoon clips where you discover the secrets of St Mystere village.

This game isn’t just for kids, it has puzzles to make even a popular puzzle player struggle.  You play detective and have been called in by the noble Lady Dahlia, of St Mystere village.  You help solve the case by completing the puzzles that the locals give you to uncover the secrets.

The game starts off nice and easy and gets harder as you go along.  This should hopefully allow you sometime to build up your brain muscles so that you can complete the game.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is nice to play on the DSi and has nice, simple graphics as you can see from a picture of one of the levels.

Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force

club_penguinHow many chances do you honestly get to enroll in the Elite Penguin Force and become a secret agent?  Going to far off lands, completing covert missions?  This game is very popular with kids as it links in with the Club Penguin social networking site for kids.  As a member of the elite penguin force you will be able to play three new mini games, which are Snowboarding, Dance Challenge and Snow Trekker, get new gadgets and gismos  along with being introduced to a whole realm of new characters.  The classic mini games, such as Cart Surfer, Jet Pack Adventure and Ice Fishing are available, but you can now use the nifty touch screen.

With the game you’ll get a code so that you can access the Elite penguin Force headquarters on Club Penguin online.  The game and online site work on conjunction, so that the coins you earn on the DS mini games can also be used on the web too!

If your kid loves the Club Penguin world, then they are sure to love this game!  Being able to access all their favorite games and characters is sure to be a treat!

mariokartds

Mario Kart DS

I’ve always loved crazy little go-kart racing games like this Mario Kart DS game, and it doesn’t disappoint.  Mario Kart DS really is packed with mode and features.  You can race in over 30 maps, which include a range of new ones and some of the classics from past versions.  Using the DSi’s wi-fi compatibility you can play seven of your best friends with just one copy of the game!  This means that you could race it out together at home, down the pub (if there’s a WI FI connection) or where ever you all are!

You get a ‘friend roster’ which lists all your friends so that you can play with them online.  You’ll get given a ‘friend code’ and you need to swap this number so that you get added to each other’s friend roster and can play together online.  This data goes through Nintendo’s skill mapping system to allow the game to be open to users of all ages and abilities.

The new Mario Kart won’t disappoint any die hard fans, with the game’s wacky pick ups, super fast speeds and a new ‘mission’ mode.  The two screen on the DSi allow for the information to be split nicely, with the adrenalin fueled race on the top screen and all your important pick up information on the bottom.

The new Mario Kart is sure to be super addictive for those who haven’t played the others too.
